A few short (and, at the same time, so long) months ago, I was an Emergency Department Travel Nurse on an assignment in Lancaster, California during a global pandemic. Three days a week I would go to work, do my job, and come back home. The other four days? I would sit in my travel trailer with my husband (Keith) and my dog (Luna) and dread going back to work. Every hour that passed, every day that went by, I could feel myself slipping further and further away. Motivation dropped and anxiety rose. I couldn’t even motivate myself to engage in any of my hobbies – reading, writing, painting, or photography – which are all things that I love to do. All I could do was go to work and come home.
And then … something changed. I had my first weekend alone all year, and I was determined to spend however long it took to figure out what I needed to change about my life to improve my health – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Because something – multiple things – needed to change.
Among several other things, I decided to pour my energy into honing one of my hobbies with the goal of someday converting it to a business. If you’re here on my website, I’m sure you can guess which of my hobbies I decided to pursue – photography. I took a few photography classes, read through my camera’s manual, and just started picking up my camera every day and taking pictures. Having a goal that I am working toward has played such a big part in my mental health, and it means so much to me that you are visiting my website and reading my blog and helping me turn my dreams into a reality.
Now that you’ve done something for me by reading this far, let me tell you what I can do for you. I love a good origin story – whether it’s about a superhero, a character in a book, or someone I just met. My favorite part of being a nurse and being a photographer is asking just the right questions about someone’s personal history to get the information I need. As a nurse, that information helps me know what I need to do to help the doctor diagnose the patient correctly. As a photographer, that information helps me to portray my clients in their most authentic forms. My undivided goal with photography is to take pictures that anyone (but especially your great-grandchildren) can look at and feel as if they truly know you. Book a session with me here and be prepared for me to learn your unique origin story and to deliver a gallery full of photographs your loved ones will relish looking at for generations.
