Business (& Life!) Update

It’s been … a few months since I’ve posted to the blog, but I haven’t forgotten about it! Last Fall was incredibly busy (but in the best way possible!). Since it’s the start of the new year (will I ever get used to the fact that it’s 2024?! Tell me why I still want to write 2012 lol), I thought this week I’d catch you up on what’s been going on in my world the last few months as well as what’s to come in 2024.

My Fall started in September with a trip my husband and I took to Branson, MO to visit Silver Dollar City. We had taken our niece there earlier in the summer for her eighth birthday, and this time we got to ride all the rides that we didn’t get to ride with her. A few weeks later my brother came to visit from Colorado. It’s always fun for us to host guests from out of state and show them our little corner of Arkansas. It’s a chance for us to eat at and visit places we don’t normally go. Then a week later we took a trip out to the Buffalo National River and stayed in a cabin with my husband’s family for his birthday. It is so beautiful there, and we were there right at the beginning of the Fall color season. Someday I’ll time it right so we visit during peak Fall color season, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

In October we took a big road trip out to New Mexico. Eight days, 2,316 miles and 49 hours in the car together, three national parks, and a visit to the beautiful city of Santa Fe … it was quite a trip. I plan to write a blog post all about it in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that!

We kicked off November with a trip to Mount Magazine State Park in central Arkansas. Keith had to attend a conference there for his work, and I got to tag along. I hiked and I enjoyed the sunsets from the lodge and I soaked in the Fall colors which were at their peak during our visit. It was glorious. That was my first visit to the park, but it will certainly not be my last. A few weeks later one of my best childhood friends from Texas came up for a visit, and then it was Thanksgiving and my niece’s third birthday and the holiday season was officially underway.

December brought several extra shifts in the emergency department, family obligations, and, unfortunately, the flu. We were supposed to go to my brother’s house near Denver for Christmas with my family, but alas, I got sick and we had to stay home. It ended up being a pretty nice holiday anyway; with Keith and I stuck in the house together we just snuggled up, watched Christmas movies, and took our vitamins.

One of the goals I had set for myself last year was to finally finish decorating my house – after all, we’ve lived here for a year and a half at this point. While I didn’t quite finish everything that I had wanted to, we did finish buying all the major furniture for the living areas – our last purchase coming in clutch on the last day of the year from Facebook marketplace. There are still a few soft touches and decor projects that I have to work on, but for the most part the living room/kitchen/dining areas are complete! Next up is our master bedroom, and then the whole house will finally be done. My mom says that home decor is never really “done”, but I think I know my style well enough by now that I will be able to be “done” at some point (hopefully this year in 2024!).
